Education Councillor

Shane Baxter and Darren Spence

We are pleased to extend a warm and heartfelt welcome to our new Education Councillors, Shane Baxter and Darren Spence. Their commitment to supporting the educational journey of our children, youth, families, and community will play an important role in strengthening our school and guiding our continued growth.


As Education Councillors, Shane and Darren bring valuable knowledge of our community, a strong dedication to student success, and a genuine desire to work alongside school staff, leadership, families, and regional partners. Their leadership will help ensure our students have access to safe, meaningful, culturally grounded, and high-quality learning opportunities.
 

We look forward to working collaboratively with both Shane and Darren as we continue building strong educational pathways, expanding land-based learning, supporting language revitalization, and creating positive, supportive environments for all learners at Henry Coaster Memorial School.

Education Director 

Susanna Baxter

A Marten Falls First Nation community member, with a post-secondary education and lived experience of the education system on reserve and through the transitions to high school and post-secondary.  Susanna Baxter is helping to strengthen the integration of Oji-Cree language learning among the staff and students, as well as supporting special education needs and cultural programming.

Tom Recke B.Ed M.A OCT

HCMS Principal has 26 years’ experience as a beloved teacher in the Toronto District School Board (TDSB), and considerable networks in the Ontario Education system, having secured a teaching secondment with the TDSB to work in Marten Falls First Nation, a first in the history of the TDSB.
